Networking

Networking is not simply a competition to know as many people as possible, one will want to foster mutually beneficial relationships and provide consistent value to their relationship. Networking can take form in many shapes but the most effective is in-person. Human to human interaction spurs a much deeper connection thus resulting in a more fruitful relationship. These connections don’t have to be made at dedicated networking events either, professional connections can be built standing in a checkout line, at a golf course, or at an industry-related competition or event. However, oftentimes, especially during a pandemic, it can be difficult to make that in-person connection. This calls for the use of technology to bridge the gap between oneself and a potential colleague or mentor. Linkedin is the go-to for most working professionals so it’s a safe play to start one’s online networking odyssey there. Ensuring that personal values and brand are well represented within one’s profile is crucial to attracting recruiters and potential connections. A balance between in-person and online networking will allow any professional candidate to get exposure and allow them to make genuine connections with established leaders within their respective fields.
